Registration season is here, and preparation is key! Preliminary schedules are available on Self-Service as of March 7, and you can start adding courses to your cart now. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth registration process.
Steps to Register Successfully
1. Meet with Your Faculty Advisor EarlyDon’t wait—schedule a meeting with your advisor as soon as possible. You must be authorized before you can officially register, and advisors get busy quickly.
2. Review Your Degree RequirementsCheck your Degree Audit to see what courses you still need. Haven’t declared a major yet? Use the "What If" tool to explore your options. If anything seems incorrect, consult your advisor or the department chair.
3. Plan Your Course Schedule Starting March 7, browse available courses and add your top choices to your cart. Aim for 4.25-4.75 units and have backup options ready in case your preferred classes fill up.
4. Get Advisor ApprovalYour advisor will review your schedule and authorize you to register. If changes are needed, adjust your cart accordingly. Your registration won’t be unlocked until your advisor completes this step.
5. Resolve Any HoldsCheck your Self-Service Profile for registration holds. If you have an Account Balance Hold, contact the Office of Student Accounts at studentaccounts@owu.edu to clear it at least one business day before your registration window.
6. Register for Your ClassesYour registration window is based on your earned credits. Make sure to mark these dates:

Course Load Guidelines
To graduate on time, aim for 4.25-4.75 units per semester. You can add courses later up to 5.5 units with advisor approval. Exceeding this limit requires a petition and additional tuition costs.
For summer terms, the maximum course load is 2.5 units. Taking fewer than 3.25 units requires special approval for part-time status.
Final Reminders
Even if you've added courses to your cart, you cannot register until your advisor gives authorization. Once approved, you can officially enroll. If your advisor hasn't unlocked your registration, reach out to them directly.
By preparing in advance, checking for holds, and meeting with your advisor, you’ll be ready to secure the best possible schedule. Set reminders for your registration window and register on time!
