Many Ohio Wesleyan seniors are coming back to campus after finishing summer internship programs. Hannah Johnson and Anthony Fresolone give insight into their internship experiences and how they spent their time trying to learn.
Johnson spent the summer as a marketing intern for Fresh Mark, Inc. in Massillon, Ohio. The company is a supplier of the brand Sugardale.
On a normal day, Johnson and the other marketing interns would prepare for events during the week. They would also do work outside of the office, whether it was running errands, visiting retail stores, talking to customers, or other miscellaneous tasks.
“[This internship] allowed me to grow as a person in a professional environment, which
was something I hadn’t experienced before with
this being my first internship,” said Johnson.

Fresolone worked at Marcus and Millichap in their Boston, Massachusetts office. He worked as an investment brokerage intern for their retail team.
On a normal day, he would have a very structured morning: meetings from eight until noon, then, from noon to the end of his day, he would meet with his internship mentor and discuss questions and priorities for the week.
Both Fresolone and Johnson had mentors at their internships that they could lean on.
Johnson’s mentor, Jessica Richmond, was super involved with not just her, but the interns she was working with as well. Richmond put together individualized projects for interns to work on.
Fresolone would meet with his mentor, Alex Quinn, for one to two and a half hours a day when he was in the office. Fresolone said that he formed a great relationship with his mentor.
“I believe that he sees a little of himself in me from the past, and Alex is someone who I admire and want to be like in the future,” said Fresolone.
Fresolone was commuting to work from an apartment in Boston and said that it was really interesting. He would take the train twice a day, having a much longer ride due to the amount of people riding home as well.
Fresolone said commuting on a train was cool and interesting because he had always seen and heard of adults taking the subway to work, and now he was one of those people.
Johnson and Fresolone are both driven students who are setting themselves up for their future and they encourage other students to take initiative for their future careers.

Johnson said, “My advice to anyone wanting to do an internship in general is to use the experience to try new things, meet new people, and learn as much as you can.”
Fresolone said that students should go into internships knowing that they’re going to make mistakes. He says that it’s completely okay to make mistakes; you just need to remember your mistakes and learn from them to fuel your success in the future.
“You have to be politely persistent and quickly learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable,” said Fresolone.
New experiences can be scary and challenging, but it will be worth it and easier in the future if you put the time and effort in now as a student.
