The Ohio Wesleyan Career and Grad School Fair was back and bigger than ever this year. On Thursday, September 19th, over 90 different organizations and graduate programs attended the fair to showcase all they have to offer to OWU students.
“The Internship and Graduate School fair this year was one of our best yet,” said Career Catalyst Newton Kimberly. “With just about 300 students and 92 employers, everyone left with positive things about the fair.”
The event ran from 11-2 in the Hamilton Williams campus center, allowing students to pop in and out during the morning. Career Connection provided students with stickers for their name
tags that were color-coded by the career Photo By Career Connection community they were a part of.
Attendees were also given a map that listed all of the organizations present, the career communities they serve, and brief information about them. Students shared that the information provided made them feel more prepared going into the fair.
“The career fair gave me an awesome opportunity to connect with potential employers and grad schools,” said senior Art History and Marketing major Clara Wood. “I walked away with a better view of my next steps moving forward.”
The fair featured 33 grad schools among the mix of the 92 organizations presented. Ohio State University had a table for four of their masters colleges including the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and the Fisher College of Business. Miami University, Capital University, University of Cincinnati, and Case Western Reserve also showed up to showcase the variety of Ohio colleges.
As for the job and internship front, there was a large variety of opportunities present from social media for companies, accounting, and even working for the city of Delaware. Grief and Schneider Downs were both in attendance and have hosted multiple Ohio Wesleyan students through internships over the last few years. “Employers love the personal connections that we make with each person who walks the door and I think the students really appreciated the Career Community stickers and the updated maps and layouts they received,” added Kimberly. “We look forward to making this event even better next year!”
The fair provided every student with an opportunity to connect with employers and get their resume out there. Even if there wasn’t a booth specifically tailored to their major it provided real-life networking experience.
