As a senior at Ohio Wesleyan University and a proud member of the executive team for the Ski and Snowboard Club, I, Lauren McClymont, can confidently say that our club is one of the most inclusive and exciting organizations on campus. I know that introduction was a little dramatic, but when you find something that brings you joy, you want everyone to know how great it is!
Inclusivity and Affordability
What sets the Ohio Wesleyan Ski and Snowboard Club apart from other campus organizations is our commitment to inclusivity and affordability. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the thrill of skiing and snowboarding, no matter their budget. Thanks to our partnership with the Wesleyan Council of Student Affairs (WCSA), we are able to organize trips to local ski resorts at little to no cost to our members. This makes it easy for students to join in on the fun without worrying about whether they can afford it.
Highlighted Experiences: The Killington Trip
One of the highlights of our Ski and Snowboard Club is our annual trip to Killington, Vermont. Every January during winter break, we embark on a four-day adventure to Killington Ski Resort, one of the premier ski resorts in the Eastern United States. This trip has been a standout experience for many members, including myself. The breathtaking views, fun atmosphere, and camaraderie among club members create unforgettable memories.
After our trip to Killington, we return to Ohio, where we continue our season at local ski hills like Snow Trails in Mansfield, Ohio. These trips provide ample opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and building lasting friendships.
A Welcoming Environment for Beginners
If you’re hesitant about joining because you don’t know how to ski or snowboard, do not fret! We are dedicated to teaching newcomers the proper technique, and safety is always a big priority. I was once a beginner too, and I can attest to the quality of support I received from senior club members. Their warm welcome and guidance made all the difference in my learning experience, which makes sense because our club thrives on teamwork, encouragement, and a shared passion for skiing and snowboarding. Before joining, I’d never been skiing, but now I feel completely confident and capable on the slopes!
Want to get Involved?
As winter approaches, I encourage all students– whether seasoned skiers or complete novices– to consider joining the Ohio Wesleyan Ski and Snowboard Club. Our trips are affordable, and the experiences are out of this world! I guarantee that you will gain skills, make friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
