After graduating from Ball State University with a degree in secondary English education with a concentration in communication, Jordyn Ping began to work as an English teacher at a high school. Three years later, she is now joining the Ohio Wesleyan Student Involvement Office, looking to make an impact in higher education.
“I liked OWU because of the size and I love that you guys do a lot of experiential learning,” said Ping on her why OWU. “It was really exciting to see a school that had something I really valued in education at the forefront of your college experience” Photo By Michaela Alfano
During her time in college, Ping was a member of Chi Omega, where she served as the Foundation Ambassador and held the role of Vice President of Member Development on Ball State’s Panhellenic Council. She has a strong passion for creating meaningful connections and growing engagement throughout the Ohio Wesleyan community.
Ping's role will be primarily working with Greek life organizations and other clubs on campus. She oversees the various groups on campus, being a main support system for students.
During her time as a high school teacher, she oversaw multiple clubs, as well as coached men’s volleyball. Having worked with students in various capacities before, Ping is perfectly equipped to take on this role in the Ohio Wesleyan student community.
When thinking about this upcoming year, Ping said that she is most excited to see students do what they are most passionate about. College is a time when people are shaped into adults and learn what they truly want to do. Ping is excited to be a resource to foster individual growth in students.
“I think college is a really special and exciting time for people growing up,” said Ping. “You're kind of on your own, for the first time, you're starting to do things independent of your hometown and of your parents. So I'm excited to be kind of a support system for individuals”
At the core of her work with Ohio Wesleyan will be fostering the connections in Greek life. The Greek life community offers a great opportunity for students on campus to serve a great purpose, because as Ping said, at the root of every fraternity and sorority is a philanthropic organization that they support. Her goal in this role is to make sure that philanthropy and values of each chapter are at the forefront. With those two things at the core, chapters will be able to create better membership experiences.
At the end of the day, Ping wants to make sure that students feel safe and like they are part of something bigger than themselves.
Welcome to OWU, Jordyn!
