Ohio Wesleyan Football Senior Looks Forward to a Promising Last Season

Ohio Wesleyan University’s football program will kick the season off on Saturday, September 7th, under the lights at Selby Stadium.

“We all know what work we need to do if we want to be crowned NCAC champions,” said OWU senior linebacker, Drew Grup.

Grup is studying marketing as well as finance. Grup acts as an active member of the OWU community through the “Athletes in Action” group, which meets weekly to talk about faith.

Ohio Wesleyan’s football team had a shortened preseason which would be worrisome to most, but not this group.

“We seem to have a sense of urgency this year. We had a rough year last year, it never seemed like we could get the job done in a ‘big game’” said Grup.

Grup is extremely excited and hopeful about his last season suiting up for the Bishops, though he noted he does not want to get ahead of himself and is taking things week by week.

The previous three seasons have offered Grup perspective. He knows that he doesn’t have much time left playing for OWU, and won’t take it for granted.

“What I will miss the most after the fall is getting strapped up and playing in the games on Saturdays. I'm excited to spend time and make memories with all my brothers this season because I know they will stay with me forever” said Grup.

Being grateful, as well as living in the moment is something that is very important to Grup. When asked about his goals for the season, he didn’t mention any league championships, but rather honed in on enjoying his time with teammates, and having as much fun on the field as he can.

Tune in every Saturday to see how the Bishops fair throughout the season, because this fall is gearing up to be a good one!
