The Ohio Wesleyan University Women of Wesleyan (WOW) biennial conference is back on campus from November 8-9. The weekend will provide networking opportunities, professional development and the chance for students to connect with not only peers but alumni and professors as well.
WOW began in 2016 and has grown to become a signature program at Ohio Wesleyan. The program celebrates the connection and community between women on campus and beyond. People will be able to learn, share, gain fresh perspectives, and build relationships with those around them. WOW serves to create meaningful connections that build mentorship opportunities, philanthropic support and community building.
“WOW is an amazing opportunity for students to build community with alumni, family, and friends of the University,” said senior WOW Committee member Clara Wood. “There are also lots of great sessions planned for personal and professional development that I am super excited for!”
The conference features a keynote from Vidya Nagarajan, MBA, Director of Product Management at Google, and Catie Butt '91, J.D., Owner, CEO, and Delivery Lead at Evergreen Legal & Business Solutions, LLC. They will speak about how to “Elevate Your Life With Purpose.” Before the keynote, there will be the opportunity to connect with attendees as well as enjoy a dinner provided by the conference.
Vidya is a current Ohio Wesleyan Trustee, an angel investor, and philanthropist. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration. Her career in the technology sector began as a software engineer and has now worked up to overseeing Infrastructure products on the Google Cloud Platform. Before her current role as a Director of Product Management, she successfully led multiple product initiatives within Google Workspace and Chromebooks, targeting Education and Business markets.
On Saturday, the programming will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., where attendees will have the opportunity to attend a series of speaker panels all about women’s empowerment. WOW will provide a professional headshot station for those participating in the event.
All of the panels will feature alumni and current professors, as well as a completely student-presented panel on the OWU Connection. The sessions are “When She Wins, We Win. How women improve organizations, culture, and society,” “Embrace Your Unique Strengths: Your personal path to empowerment,” “From Boomers to Gen Z: The evolving roles, perceptions, and expectations of women,” “Beyond the Classroom: OWU Connection Experiences and aspirations of female college students today,” and “Leading by Example: How women are shaping the future through service and support.”
“WOW has gifted me an even deeper sense of belonging on campus,” said senior WOW Committee member Maggie Lloyd. “I’m excited to connect with and feel empowered by other women of Ohio Wesleyan at this year’s WOW Weekend.”
