Organizations to Hold Events to Celebrate the LGBTQ+ Community

To celebrate Trans Day of Visibility on March 31, various events will be happening throughout the day at the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA), SAGE house, PRISM— the LGBTQIA+ club, and on the Jay Walk.

In preparation for celebrations, questionnaires and surveys have been circulating campus. Organizers are inviting all Trans and Non-Binary students to fill out a survey expressing their individual and unique gender identity and sharing some pieces of their gender identity journey. All anonymous responses will culminate into a creative public display (though students have the option to opt out).

The survey can be found here: Questions about Trans/Nonbinary People?

Organizers are also inviting students to anonymously submit any questions they have about Trans, Non-Binary, or Gender Non-Conforming identities which will be responded to by Trans and NB Students during the events.

You can submit your anonymous question here: Anonymous Question Submittal

If you have any other questions about these coming events you can reach out to OMSA at omsa@owu.edu

Another event scheduled to represent the school’s LGBTQ+ community is a panel, which will be held on April 7th in the Bayley Room of the Beeghly Library to discuss accessibility on campus, and the experiences of LGBTQ+ identifying students and disability.

The event will take place from 6-7 p.m., and intends to cultivate awareness and communal support for under-represented students.

Some topics that will be discussed include Bishop Access, Faculty and Student Support, amongst other important topics. All students and faculty are invited and encouraged to attend.

This event is still looking for panelists and organizers are strongly urging any students who are interested in participating, have a disability, and identify with the LGBTQ+ community to apply.

Lastly, for 2022 Seniors, Lavender Graduation will be held on Sunday April 24th in the Benes Room from 1pm to 2:15pm. Lavender graduation is a celebration of all graduating LGBTQ+ students. All students, family, friends, and community members are invited to join the appreciation and celebration.

The ceremony will include light snacks, a guest speaker, a community group photo and the disbursement of stoles and honor cords.

Graduating LGBTQ+ students who can’t physically join are invited to register anyways so they can be acknowledged at the events.
