Sorority members remember their "why" on International Badge Day

Monday, March 4, 2024, was International Badge Day. Ohio Wesleyan’s Panhellenic Council ordered cookies from AVI catering with the Greek letters of our campus’s five chapters.

International Badge Day is meant for these students to showcase their organization’s badge with pride and celebrate what it means to be a member.

There are over 150 students on campus who are involved in sorority life. Despite such a large number, many people unaffiliated question the reason why people should join Greek life. So what makes sorority life so special to the students involved?

Rachel Peters, a member of Tri Delta, shares “Sorority life is so special to me because I love being a part of a community that is made up of strong and passionate women that have so many different strengths and perspectives and simultaneously bond over what it means to be involved in a sisterhood. We aspire to contribute to our world and each other in a way that is meaningful and beyond the confines of OWU. We all push each other to be the best we can be because of the values and motivations we share!”

Grace Mahoney, a member of Delta Gamma, shares “I love being in Greek life because I have a support system and have had multiple leadership positions that have helped me grow as a person.”

Veronica Tai Padron, a member of Delta Zeta, shares “I like being part of a sorority because they challenge me to not only be the best I can be, but also a leader. I also love how strong the sisterhood is and how welcomed I always feel.”

Sisi Fish, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, shares “I like having a community of people that support me.”

Ally Gerty, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, shares “It has brought me so many friendships and fosters such a caring environment. I’m so lucky to be a part of a community that shares values and passion.”

Each chapter member has shared a similar “why” that motivates their members to participate. It’s the community that sorority life brings them. The acceptance to be themselves while having people hold them accountable and the opportunity to lead.

If you are interested in joining this community, reach out to the Panhellenic Council email, panhellenic@owu.edu, or DM the Instagram account at owupanhel. Freshman can only join once they have completed their first semester at Ohio Wesleyan and have an established OWU GPA.
